Sentry Box Farm Stay and Goat Stud

984 Bakers Creek Road, Bundarra

Sentry Box is a 1110 ha property on the western fall of the New England Tablelands in Northern New South Wales, Australia. We run cattle, white dorper sheep and boer goats primarily on native pastures.

The property has about 500 ha of open native pasture, 600 ha of woodland and about 100 ha of forest. Birds and native wildlife abound.

Guests are welcome to use our recently renovated cottage located close to the homestead and to use the four wheel drive tracks to explore and observe.

The area is picturesque with granite boulders, upland swamps, hills rising to 900m and our platypus hole in Bakers Creek. Guests are welcome to participate in many farm activities. Feeding poddy goats and lambs, moving or feeding stock, or perhaps more strenuous activities such as drenching goats, fencing or maintaining our water systems are more to your liking. Some things you can help with, others, for insurance reasons, you can only watch.

No guarantee as to what will be on, many activities are seasonal. We lamb in August/September and try to kid in April and September (goats often have a mind of their own). Our main calving is in late winter.

Wild blackberries are ready to pick in February/March.
Guests are welcome to wander over our 1110 ha (roughly 7km by 2km) to watch the wildlife or just sit and enjoy. We have over 30km of 4X4 tracks for walking or driving. You will see a lot more walking!!

Along Bakers Creek platypus are common (no guarantees) and kangaroos and wallabies come to drink in the evening.

The higher country has views accross the Gwydir Valley to the basalt plateau around Guyra. Our country that ranges from open pasture to dense forest is home to a wide variety of native birds. A number of different types of parrots, cockatoos, galahs, kookaburras and crows commonly nest in hollows in the older trees, while the honeyeaters prefer the open forest. Grey and brown tree creepers and fire tail finches are common in the woodlands. Water birds such as varieties of ducks and herons frequent the swamps and creeks.

Wedgetail eagles are common.

We leave fallen trees and logs and manage our woodlands to promote an understory of shrubs to encourage birds.
