The Huts is an icon of Australian Sheep farms and truly have a character of their own. The Huts have played an important role on this farm for nearly sixty years. They accommodate the shearing team that visits this property every year in July to shear the 12,000 superfine Merino sheep run here. Although The Huts are still in use by the shearers, we have given them a minor facelift and opened them to the public throughout the rest of the year.
The Huts are on a farm known as “The Hill” on the New England Tablelands of Nth NSW. As the name suggests, this is simple and clean accommodation that is suited to groups wanting to get away from the city together and experience something different.
“The Hill” is a small part of the original “Terrible Vale” Run taken up by the Taylor’s in the 1830’s. Back then, the property was over 27,000 acres and amongst the few significant properties on the New England Tablelands. "The Hill" is now managed by 6th generation Taylors along with four other family owned farms.
“The Hill” has been run as a progressive farm business that recognises the value of our land and how important the health of our environment is to the bottom line. There is plenty of opportunity to learn about our innovative farm management practices whilst relaxing and enjoying the rural life. Read on under Information to find out about our other facilities and services we can offer.
The Huts at “The Hill” are relatively easy to reach by train, bus or plane from Sydney or Brisbane but we’re far enough off the beaten track that there won’t be the distractions of towns or traffic. We can easily arrange pick-up from your public transport or directions for driving here or even flying here if you’re coming by private light aircraft.
