We ‘Take 5’ with Belinda Hynds – the manager at the Great Western Hotel in Cobar.
What’s Cobar’s best kept secret?
The Aboriginal painting out at Mount Grenfell is a bit of a secret one. You can have a walk around and take a picnic; it changes all the time out there.
Where do you go around town to unwind?
The dam out at Newey is a good place to go and take the dogs for a walk. Anywhere with a bit of water is special here. There is a walk around the edge of the dam and some grass to relax on.
What is the one thing to do in Cobar that you would recommend to everybody?
At the Fort Bourke Lookout you can see down into the copper mine, and the town laid out behind it. It’s a smaller version of the one at Kalgoorlie, but it’s breathtaking.
Where should people take the kids?
The Great Cobar Heritage Museum is good, they’ve got a lot of stuff to see and do.
Where would you recommend they go for a meal?
The Great Western Hotel obviously! They should come here, order a drink and a meal, and then go sit up on the verandah to watch the sunset over the main street.
