Canoe the Macquarie River, Dubbo

Keep your cool with Adventure Watersports in Dubbo.

The Macquarie River flows right through Dubbo, cutting the town in half before meandering off into the farmlands on the outskirts of town. Hiring a canoe or kayak is therefore a great way not only to explore the town from a new perspective but also take in the natural scenery and wildlife on the banks of the river.

Based at Lake Burrendong near Wellington, Adventure Watersports rents single kayaks, two-person canoes and stand-up paddleboards (SUPs) for use on the river in Dubbo. Prices are very reasonable, starting at $20 per hour for a single kayak, with a sliding scale for longer use.

A family-owned business, Adventure Watersports is run by Gavin and Karla Stait, a water-obsessed young couple with a fleet of kayaks, canoes and SUPs available. It’s relaxing indeed to gently paddle through the town, watching the cockies and galahs play in the towering gum trees on the banks of the river. And if you fancy fishing for your lunch, rods also available for hire.

But if you’re after something more adrenalin-pumping, Adventure Watersports is also an accredited waterskiing and wakeboarding school, offering lessons and sessions on Lake Burrendong at $125 per hour, with a two-hour minimum. Waterskiing is fantastic in the warmer weather, delighting little and big kids alike. If they’ve been nagging you to learn to ski or wake, what better way than with qualified and passionate instructors during your holiday in the Central West of NSW?

Adventure Watersports specialises in total beginners, so first timers needn’t feel intimidated. Gear is also available for hire.

Summers are mighty hot in Dubbo and there’s simply no better way to cool down than by getting on the water with Adventure Watersports.
