Be sure to stop in at the Empire for a meal fit for a king.
“We’re back to a working man’s bar,” Cindy Bryan, the Manager of the Empire Hotel tells me proudly. “And we serve lots of families in the bistro – we’re a family hotel too.”
Located in the centre of Cobar, the Empire Hotel is buzzing with people from lunchtime onwards, and a quick glance around the place proves Cindy true. The stools at the bar are lined with men chatting over a couple of schooners before heading home for the day, while the spacious lounge is packed with families and travellers enjoying an old-fashioned pub meal.
The bistro menu is displayed on the wall next to the bar and, in addition to the usual pub-fare suspects such as parma and scotch fillet, you will find up to ten specials with treats such as pan fried salmon and roast turkey up for grabs.
“Our specials board is always changing,” Cindy says. “We love coming up with new things.”
You can enjoy your meal in the air-conditioned lounge or outside in the sunny and cheerful beer garden, surrounded by large and lush potted plants.
The salad that comes with the meals is fresh and light, the sauces rich and flavoursome, and the chips are perfectly crispy: no less than you’d expect from a quality Aussie pub meal.
The Empire Hotel is located at 6 Barton St, Cobar, NSW.
