For genuine craft beer brewed in the country, head no further than Uralla’s New England Brewing.
It might come as a surprise to some that the New England region of New South Wales is a hot spot for craft beer. A number of breweries and microbreweries have sprung up around the countryside in the past few years, but the brewery leading the craft-beer charge is without doubt New England Brewing.
Operating out of Uralla since 2013, New England Brewing is a fast-growing commercial brewery on a mission to change the face of beer in regional NSW. Today, the brewery produces seven genuine craft beers, all of which are available on tap in the brewery’s bar. But owner Ben Rylands is quick to point out that his beers aren't confined to the brew house.
“People can get the beer in the Hunter Valley all the way up the highway, in towns like Scone, Willow Tree, Tamworth and Uralla,” Ben, a former Sydneysider and Armidale University graduate, says. “We’re on tap at the pub next door (Top Pub), and we’ve got lots of wholesale customers locally, in Uralla, Armidale and Glen Innes”.
The New England Brewing team are a dedicated lot, committed to producing only the very best brews, and true to the craft beer spirit, all of New England Brewing beers are handmade, unfiltered and preservative free.
For those interested in going behind the scenes, the brewery offers tours by appointment. On each 45-minute tour, team members will spill the secrets of their brewing processes and ingredients, and visitors get an up-close look beyond the bottom of the glass. Of course, all tours culminate in a tasting paddle showcasing each of the brewery’s beers.
New England Brewing’s bar is open to the public Thursday to Saturday, so be sure to pop by for a cheeky pint and witness brewing magic in motion.
