Oakhurst Cottage Farmstay, Deepwater

Adventures

You will get a true taste for rural life at Oakhurst Cottage Farmstay, a spacious farmhouse on a working property outside Glen Innes.

Once the original homestead on a working sheep and cattle property between Glen Innes and Emmaville, Oakhurst Cottage in Deepwater has been tastefully restored to its former glory and is now available as private, self-contained accommodation.

It has its own fenced yard and garden overlooked by a wide front porch and frequented by friendly farm animals including a pet sheep, Tu Tu, and a friendly cow named Poddy.

Your own pets are welcome here, too; this is the perfect place to holiday with your dog considering the 2500 acres of farm and bushland that are yours to explore.

Privacy is a key selling point at Oakhurst. The owner’s home is well distanced from the farmhouse and, while you are invited to participate in daily farm activities if you please, you are also left to your own devices if you’d prefer to bunker down in solitude.

Depending on the time of year, there are plenty of opportunities to roll up your sleeves and get some dirt under your fingernails on the farm.

You can help by collecting the eggs and tending to the chickens, viewing the Border Leicester stud ewes and lambs (with feeding during autumn, winter and spring), observing the calving of the Angus cows in September and October, lambing the merinos in September, sheering the sheep in July and picking veggies and herbs from the garden all year round.

This is a truly interactive farmstay that kids and adults alike will love.

After a day’s ‘work’ on the farm (or a day doing sweet nothing), you’ll love returning to the comforts of the farmhouse, whose two double bedrooms are adorned in country-style patchwork quilts, antique furniture and vintage lamps.

Both rooms have ensuite bathrooms, making Oakhurst perfect for two couples or a family.

There are polished wooden floorboards throughout the house, and the weatherboard walls are painted in a warm, muted yellow befitting the country aesthetic.

The timber kitchen opens onto a large dining room, which in turn opens onto the living room, making for a lovely communal area with a fireplace the undisputed centerpiece.
