Hold onto your cowboy hats at the raucous Professional Bull Riders event in Tamworth.
Tamworth might well be NSW’s classic country town. Famous for its country music and farming communities, it also attracts epic regional events to its Australian Equine and Livestock Events Centre (AELEC). But by far the most exciting event to hit AELEC is the Professional Bull Riders Australia Tamworth Invitational.
Hailed as the toughest sport on dirt, the PBR has jumped the Pacific Ocean in recent years from its native home in America to Australian soil.
It pitches the top cowboys in the world against angry bucking bulls that’d quite like to see them pressed into the dirt for good. 22 riders from all over the world fight for glory over three action-packed hours, each displaying their strength and agility as they battle to stay atop the country’s toughest bulls for eight seconds.
The annual event returns to Tamworth in November, drawing crowds of RM Williams-clad country folk from far and wide. And it’s no surprise they’re willing to travel; the show is an extravaganza of pyrotechnics, excited commentators with heavy Southern drawl and cocky rodeo clowns with an evident death wish.
You’ll feel like you’ve stepped into a portal that has delivered you straight to Texas. It’s nothing short of awesome.
