Nestled in the lush foothills of Barrington Tops you’ll find a multi award-winning retreat that ticks all the right boxes when it comes to the ultimate country getaway.
Upon arrival at the 750 acre Riverwood Downs, it’s hard not to feel as though you’ve been transported into some kind of serene natural paradise.
From the green hills of the Monkerai Valley that surround the property, to the placid waters of the neighbouring Karuah River, there really couldn’t be a much prettier place to escape to. There’s truly a sense of peacefulness that Riverwood Downs radiates - and trust us when we say it’s contagious!
However, don’t begin to panic and think that this level of remoteness equates to basic facilities or a lack of modern services – this is country-style resort living at its best.
The three dining options will have guests packing away their portable camp oven in favour of a scotch fillet steak or oven baked Atlantic salmon at the licensed Barrington Bar and Grill – a definite culinary highlight of the property.
The café is perfect for a more relaxed lunch, with bookings on the open-air veranda available as well (you’ve got to secure the perfect lunch time table, after all!). Meanwhile, the kids will love grabbing an ice-cream treat from the kiosk, which also stocks gas, ice and a small selection of personal and basic provisions.
When it comes to bunkering down for the night, Riverwood Downs has something to suit even the fussiest of holiday-makers. For those looking to pamper themselves, there are 4 star cabins (spa included!) overlooking the river, or the secluded two bedroom River Cottage with wrap-around deck and fully-equipped kitchen.
The self-contained Timber Park cabins that sleep up to 5 guests are a great family-friendly option, as is the 21 room bunkhouse, specifically catered for large groups, schools or conferences. Riverwood Downs even has allocated caravan and camping sites available, on shady, grassed areas right by the river.
While Riverwood Downs is undoubtedly a place to come and escape the hustle and bustle of city life, for the easily restless there is a smorgasbord of activities and attractions on offer. Horse riding, canoeing, tennis, swimming, mountain bike riding and fishing are just some of the ways patrons can entertain themselves, and there’s even an after-dark wildlife safari tour that runs nightly.
So whether it’s peace and quiet you’re searching for, or that perfect family holiday destination, we guarantee you’ll find your happy place - whatever that may be, here at Riverwood Downs.
