A boutique hotel with a flair for the dramatic in the heart of Barraba.
Originally a pub built in 1905, the Playhouse Hotel has been given a new lease on life in recent years, resurrected in 2007 by a theatre aficionado as a boutique hotel, restaurant and, you guessed it, playhouse.
The hotel has since flourished, and is now the finest accommodation offering in Barraba and indeed the wider region.
Occupying prime position on a corner of Barraba’s tree-lined main street, this grand building affords either street or courtyard views from each of the upstairs rooms, of which there are 10.
Tastefully furnished and with pressed cotton linen, each room has its own modern bathroom and can accommodate between two and five. They each have a reverse cycle air conditioner and high speed Wifi is available throughout the hotel with a pleasingly efficient connection from each room, making this an ideal overnighter for business travellers.
But it’s not just workers who will enjoy the conveniences here, those travelling for leisure are bound to be delighted by the fabulous cuisine served up in the downstairs dining room by the Playhouse’s skilled chef. Focused on local produce and wholesome, hearty meals, you might have to drag yourself back upstairs to retire for the evening but you’ll do so completely satiated.
On summer nights the vine-clad courtyard provides wonderful alfresco dining, while the fireplace keeps things cosy inside on dark winter nights. The restaurant is fully licensed and there’s a great selection of wine and beer to choose from. It’s open to non-houseguests by prior reservation, too.
During the most recent renovations the former pub’s disused pool hall was transformed into an intimate ‘black box’ style theatre with seating for 80 people. The Playhouse regularly hosts live shows, concerts and movies, bringing a splash of culture to this sleepy, pretty little town.
Be it business or pleasure that brings you to Barraba, the Playhouse Hotel is the place to stay.
