Tasty pub grub, friendly service and live music at the best waterhole in town.
Traveling around regional NSW you begin to notice a theme; most towns have a ‘top pub’, even if only colloquially. Generally speaking this refers to whether the pub is at the ‘top’ or the ‘bottom’ end of the main street, and in Uralla that rule holds true.
But with an extensive menu full of locally sourced produce, a beautiful beer garden, an intimate dining room and friendly staff pulling beers for a bar full of locals, this particular pub is ‘top’ in more ways than one.
Let’s start with the food. This isn’t just any old country town pub food; the meals at Top Pub are modern, creative and delicious. Locally sourced lamb, beef and pork are used, so why not try the African spiced lamb backstrap, the macadamia, honey and apple crusted pork cutlet or perhaps a big, juicy local steak.
Seafood comes fresh from Coffs Harbour on the coast, so you might opt for the crispy skin salmon with Thai apple salad and chilli citrus dressing, or go with the chilli prawn and squid fettuccini.
Vegetarian and gluten free options are available and they’re delicious – no boring old vegie stacks here! Instead try the mixed mushroom tart with goats cheese and sage served with lemon infused black rice, or the zucchini fettuccini, tossed with tomatoes, mushrooms, chilli, lemon and basil.
There’s also the usual lineup of tried and true pub favourites, like chicken parmigiana, bangers and mash, burgers and a mixed grill. The menu is, in fact, enormous; even the fussiest eater will find something to love.
The Top Pub has a live band every Friday, an open mic night every Sunday, and a busy bar room full of friendly locals most nights of the week. We reckon that’s how you know it’s a bloody good pub!
