Get off the beaten path and explore the Cottan-Bimbang National Park via the Myrtle Scrub scenic drive. Weaving through deeper recesses of the park than the highway, this 14km track traverses old-growth wet eucalypt forest and rainforest, and provides ample opportunity to spy lyrebirds or brush turkeys. Be sure to pack a picnic for your trip, and stop off for a leisurely lunch at the picnic spot next to Cells River and its magnificent timber bridge. If you want to explore more of the park while you’re here, head into the Cells State Conservation Area in the centre of the park, where you can learn about the area’s gold mining history. When you’re ready, get back on the Myrtle Scrub scenic drive and continue until the track reconnects with the Oxley Highway.
