When you drive over the Barwon River Bridge you'll see another imposing steel bridge close by. This structure is famous as one of only two surviving examples remaining of the first series of lift bridges in NSW.
Opened in 1889 it could be raised and lowered to allow the paddle steamers to pass underneath. Located just a few kilometres on the northern side of Brewarrina. For its time, the bridge was a technically sophisticated structure, requiring two men to wind a pulley mechanism to lift the centre of the structure.
