Getting to New England High Country
Situated within a day's drive of Sydney, experiencing the wonderful New England High Country is easier than you may think. New England High Country is the ideal getaway for a scenic long weekend. Therefore, it should come as no surprise that it is well equipped to cater for guests coming by road, rail or air. BY CAR Walcha is the southern most town in New England High Country, and is located 418km north of Sydney along the Pacific Highway and Thunderbolts Way. The journey from here to the region's northernmost town, Tenterfield, stretches 252km one way, and makes for a truly enjoyable touring itinerary. The heart of New England High Country, Armidale, is a five and three quarter hour drive from Sydney. If you are coming from Brisbane, Tenterfield is a three hours drive south along the National Highway A15 and the New England Highway. BY AIR Numerous flights operate each day between Sydney and Armidale, courtesy of QantasLink and Regional Express Airlines, making it easy to access the capital of the New England region. BY RAIL If you have more time on hand and want to take the scenic route to New England High Country, why not take the train? NSW TrainLink operates a daily service between Sydney and Armidale that takes about eight hours, while trains operate from Armidale to Glen Innes, Inverell, Guyra and Tenterfield.
