Tamworth Country Music Festival
Country music at its finest at the world-renowned Tamworth Country Music Festival. Luring thousands of country music fans each year, the annual Tamworth Country Music Festival is the largest music festival in the Southern Hemisphere, running for 10 days and showcasing the talents of more than 800 artists. With entertainment spread across the Tamworth region, the festival caters for around 55,000 country music enthusiasts, with spectacular performances from their favourite singers and musicians. The 2016 line-up is set to include Guy Sebastian, Simon and Garfunkel and hundreds of other well-known artists, alongside a list of young up-and-comers. Visitors are treated to an array of free outdoor concerts, with daily performances held between 11am and 3pm, as well as nightly shows throughout the festival. The main street of Tamworth comes alive with buskers, market stalls and food stands, while a new family precinct is sure to keep the kids happy thanks to a jumping castle, Ferris wheel and circus workshop! The Fanzone area offers smaller, more personal performances and the opportunity to get signatures and maybe even a quick chat with your idols. One of the most exciting aspects of the Tamworth Country Music Festival is the announcement of the highly sought-after Golden Guitar awards, which honour outstanding achievement in country music. The gongs are handed out at the festival each year and continue to be the highlight of the iconic event. All roads really do lead to the country capital of Australia. Tamworth city is at the junction of the New England and Oxley Highways and lies 100km from Council’s northern boundary and about 90km from the south-eastern tip of the region. BY CAR Tamworth is an easy five hour drive from Sydney via the Pacific Motorway and New England Highway. The new Hunter Expressway enables easier travel to and from the region including a shortened three hour trip from Newcastle. Tamworth is six and half hour drive from Brisbane via the New England Highway. BY AIR QantasLink operates several turboprop and Q400 air services to and from Sydney daily. Virgin Australia operates a daily direct flight to and from Sydney and JetGo provide direct flights four times per week to Brisbane. Tamworth Airport is a short drive into the CBD. The airport has a cafe, airline lounge access, car hire service desks, ATM, and wireless internet facilities. Both short and long term car parking is available adjacent to the terminal. Taxis are available and can be arranged on-board your aircraft or when you arrive at the terminal. BY RAIL AND BUS There are daily CountryLink train and bus services to Tamworth, both interstate and from across the region. Tamworth Railway Station is only a few minutes’ walk from the CBD, with taxis also available upon arrival. Greyhound Australia also services the Tamworth region.
