Our first destination is the unique "underground society" of White Cliffs, whose residents actually live underground! Experience the eerie lunar landscape and spend the night in the famous Underground Motel. Visit various mines and museums, and why not try your hand 'noodling' for opal on the working opal fields. This is also the perfect place to find a special piece of 'colour' from one of the underground opal shops - why not take home a memory of your tour that you will be able to wear and treasure forever?

Leaving White Cliffs we travel along red dirt outback roads, punctuated with red river gum lined creek beds, to Packsaddle Roadhouse for lunch. Our next stop is at a privately owned sheep station which we are priviledged to have almost exclusive access to, and will find amazing collections of indigenous Panaramitee style rock engravings.

Panaramitee style rock art at this site is characterized by motifs pecked into the rock surface with a specially prepared stone tool. Animal tracks predominate, including kangaroo tracks, bird tracks and human footprints, as well as many other motifs. Some extinct forms are also recorded, such as thylacine, giant kangaroo and diprotodon.

This site incorporates one of the largest concentrations of engraved rock art in Australia, with approx 18,000 individual engravings recorded. Engravings here are dated beyond 10,000 years old, suggesting a long history of human creativity in this place.

Take a step away from the hustle, bustle and stress of modern life, and jump into one of our 4WD vehicles for a leisurely journey through some of Outback NSW's most scenic and off the beaten track locations. Enjoy a real outback welcome as you visit our network of accommodation venues in Louth, Cobar, Wilcannia and White Cliffs and soak up the atmosphere of these great destinations.

Start with a leisurely drive through the Menindee/Kinchega NP area, which abounds with bird and wildlife, our first destination is Mungo where you can relax in the luxury of Mungo Lodge and enjoy a spectacular sunset over the Walls of China lunettes.

Travel to Cobar, the copper mining hub of the outback via the quaint town of Ivanhoe, where we enjoy a great lunch at the local pub. Then onto Louth and Tilpa on the Darling River - both towns full of fascinating history and quirky characters.

Our overnight stay at Warrawong on the Darling is one of those outback gems you will long remember. Relax on the verandah of your modern ensuite cabin, and soak up the unspoilt tranquility - you will love the amazing variety of bird and wildlife and the ever-changing colours of the sunset. Check out the indigenous art and maybe learn how it is done by the resident artist - or perhaps join him for a few yarns around the campfire.

White Cliffs opal fields are our next destination, where you will find a plethora of outback characters and the famous Underground Motel. After exploring the opal fields and opal shops, and discovering the history of this unique place, sleep soundly in your underground bedroom.

Our final day takes us to the magnificent Mutawintji NP where you will discover some of the most culturally significant indigenous art in Australia, at one of the country's most sacred aboriginal sites. This is truly a tour not to be missed!!!

The 1 Day Mutawintji NP Tour (passengers ex Broken Hill) -
Join us as passengers from Broken Hill in our luxury 4WD vehicles on our 1 Day Mutawintji NP Tour (with focus on the Historic Site) - Cost is $220 per adult, $209 senior concession, children half price of adult fare - morning tea and lunch provided. This tour operates on demand for a minimum of 2 adult passengers (Monday to Friday) or 3 adult passengers (Saturday and Sunday), subject to availability.

The 1 Day Mutawintji National Park Tour (tag-along option in your 4WD vehicle ex Broken Hill) -
Join us as a tag-along participant from Broken Hill in your own 4WD vehicle, for the full day tour (as above). Cost is $120 per adult, children half price - morning tea and lunch provided. You will also have access to commentary from our guide on the trip out and back, with UHF radio in your vehicle, if you don't have one we may be able to supply one for the day. This option is available whenever we have a confirmed departure on our 1 Day Mutawintji NP Tour (with passengers).

The Mutawintji NP Historic Site Tour (Tag-along in your own vehicle ex Mutawintji NP Campground) -

Join us as a tag-along participant from the Mutawintji NP Campground in your own vehicle. This option is only available whenever we have a confirmed departure on our 1 Day Mutawintji NP Tour (as above). Check with our office to see if a departure is programmed on a date that suits your needs. There is a payphone available at the Mutawintji NP Visitor Information Bay.
Meet us at the Campground (in the carpark area in front of the amenities block) at approx. 10.30am CST (11am EST), then follow our guide vehicle to the Historic Site for the tour, which lasts approx. 2.5 – 3 hours.
Cost is $45 per adult, children $10 each (5-13 years), under 5 years FOC – no meals provided. We have no eftpos facilities at the park, so correct payment is essential, alternately phone our office to pay by c/card in advance (1.5% c/card fee applies) or direct deposit.
We advise that you have a snack before meeting our guide, as this tour runs over the lunch break, and we do not stop for lunch in the Historic Site.
Bookings with our office are recommended so that we can keep track of numbers expected on each tour, however if you arrive at the Campground and have not previously contacted us you can check with our guide on arrival to see if there is room for you to join the tour, as numbers are limited.
Once again, this option is only available whenever we have a confirmed departure on our 1 Day Mutawintji NP Tour. Check with our office to see if we have a tour programmed while you will be at Mutawintji. We also endeavor to keep the Mutawintji NP staff updated when we have tours due into the park, so that they are able to notify campers in advance.

The Mutawintji NP Historic Site Tour (charter groups ex Mutawintji NP Campground) -
If you intend to camp at Mutawintji and need to confirm in advance that we will have a tour into the Historic Site on the day you will be there, we have the option to book and pay our minimum operating cost in advance to guarantee a guide will be there to meet your group. This option is particularly good if you have a group of 12 or more people as this equates to the standard tag-along fee per adult, and enables us to send a guide out to meet you regardless of us having passengers on board, or other tag-alongs joining the group. If you confirm a booking this way, we may still end up having passengers and other tag-alongs join the group, however it ensures that we will be there on the day you request even if we have no other bookings.

Have you ever wanted to venture further into the outback to see what really lies beyond Broken Hill? Well this tour not only takes you to the stunning Corner Country, it takes you much further. Meet the people who call Cameron Corner home, where the Dingo Fence is actually in their back yard. Travel through red sand dune country to Innamincka on the majestic Cooper Creeek, and imagine how it was for Burke & Wills as they made camp at the Dig Tree.

Traverse the breathtaking red gibber plains along the Cordillo Downs road and feel the presence of generations gone by in the historic woolshed. This is a great way to appreciate what life was truly like for previous generations. Our main destination is of course Birdsville, the 4wd mecca of the outback and the starting point for many journeys into the Simpson Desert. Climb to the top of 'Big Red' - the highest sand dune in the Simpson desert - and marvel at the beauty of this vast country. Stay at the famous Birdsville Hotel, and while you're there take the time to enjoy a drink at the bar with one of the characters who call this place home.

But this is not where it ends, our journey now takes us further east as we explore more of the Channel Country with an overnight stay at Windorah, then onto Thargominda, on the Bullo River, where you will learn about Australia's first hydro-electricity system, powered by the abundant artesian water in the area.

As we head home there is still much more to amaze and surprise you, with a visit to the remote Noccundra Hotel before our final stopover at Tibooburra. The most remote town in NSW, and without doubt the capital of the Corner Country, this is a place brimming with outback characters and friendly faces. Sit on the verandah of the Family Hotel, and just 'watch the town go by' - a perfect end to an exhillarating journey of discovery!

Discover some of the most culturally significant indigenous artworks in Australia, at one of the country’s most sacred aboriginal sites - this is our most popular one day tour and is always in high demand!

Mutawintji (pronounced moot-a-wint-ji) National Park, the sacred heart of the Byngnano Ranges, was once a busy meeting place for Australia’s ancient indigenous inhabitants. Their dreamtime stories, history and teachings adorn rocks and caverns, as stencils and engravings, providing a unique insight into the life & culture of the Australian aboriginal people. Mutawintji holds evidence of Aboriginal occupation dating back over 8,000 years.
This tour will take you on a 4WD adventure from the ever-changing landscapes of the Barrier Ranges to the spectacular gorges and caverns of Mutawintji National Park. With its creeks and rock holes lined with majestic river red gums, Mutawintji means “place of green grass and water holes”.
Travel In journalist, Emma Ryan has recently joined Tri State Safaris on a 1 Day Mutawintji NP Tour for an opportunity to write a couple of stories on this unique part of outback NSW. She has done an outstanding job on showcasing just how beautiful and special Mutawintji NP is. Emma explains what our passengers can expect and experience on this unmissable tour. Officially known as Kati Thanda, Lake Eyre is the lowest natural point in Australia, at appx 15 metres below sea level. On the rare occasion that Lake Eyre fills, it becomes the largest lake in Australia and the 18th largest in the world. It was named in honour of Edward John Eyre, who was the first European to see it, in 1840.

When full it becomes our "inland sea’ inhabited by an abundance of bird and wildlife. It truly is a birdwatchers paradise! Even when water flows in to part-fill the lake via great inland rivers such as the Diamantina, Cooper Creek and the Warburton, the spectacle is breathtaking.

With an amazing start to 2016, the outback has had a huge rain event, and once again Lake Eyre is wet!!!! Don't miss this opportunity to see it in all it's glory!

While staying at Marree you will get a birds-eye view of this amazing spectacle on a 1.5 hour flight over the lake which is included in your tour cost. From Marree over the Goyder Channel to Lake Eyre North, through Madigan Gulf, over Hunt Peninsula and Jackboot Bay, onto Belt Bay, before returning to Marree over Lake Eyre South.

This flight gives you the opportunity to enjoy the visual extremities of the lake, & its incredible colours & patterns that are accentuated from the air, as well as flying over the islands where you are most likely to see migratory birds.

However this tour is not just about Lake Eyre as we travel through both the Flinders Ranges and the NSW Corner Country on this amazing adventure into our real outback!

Find your inner child at the spectacular Perry sandhills before we head to our beautiful overnight accommodation at Avoca on Darling homestead. Enjoy true outback hospitality as we share a meal with our hosts and stay in the beautiful homestead rooms.

Follow the Darling River to Pooncarie then onto Mungo National Park where you will learn about the fascinating indigenous and pastoral history of this area and soak up the magic of the "Walls of China" lunette system as the sun sets low.

As we explore this part of the Willandra Lakes World Heritage listed region you will be delighted by the experience that will leave you with memories to last a lifetime. Learn about the region, which contains a system of ancient lakes formed over the last two million years, most of which are fringed by a crescent shaped dune or lunette. Aborigines lived on the shores of the lakes for at least 50,000 years, and the remains of a 40,000 year old female found in the dunes of Lake Mungo are believed to be the oldest ritual cremation site in the world.

Enjoy a fantastic meal and luxury accommodation at the nearby Mungo Lodge.
As your adventure continues we enjoy a sumptuous lunch at the award winning Trentam Estate Winery on the banks of the Murray River, before continuing through Mildura on your way back to Broken Hill.

This is the real Australian Outback, where you will meet the intriguing characters that call this land home! Be amazed at the stunning contrast of colours, the endless blue horizons, piercing red sand dunes, rugged rocky escarpments and at times, carpets of colourful wildflowers. This is the NSW Corner Country!! The secrets of this spectacular area are being uncovered rapidly, so make sure you don't misss out.

Join us on a journey of discovery into this beautiful country. Staying underground in White Cliffs is an experience you will never forget, along with the opportunity to meet the people who live and work in this quirky outback town. Take the opportunity to visit three states at once - and more to the point three different time zones during daylight savings - at Cameron Corner. The perfect place to capture stunning outback images with the Dingo Fence rolling over red sand dunes, you will find the photo opportunities are endless!

Oh, and did I mention the wildlife.......Sturt National Park is the home of the big red kangarooo, and on most visits they are in prolific numbers. Depending on seasonal changes the area can abound in not only roos and emus, but it is a haven for various lizards and birds. At times the flocks of budgies, galahs, corellas or cockateils cloud the sky with their wings - the opportunities for spotting birds and wildlife are endless. You may even be lucky enough to get a good look at Australia's largest bird of prey - the majestic Wedge Tail Eagle.

With two nights staying in Tibooburra, you will enjoy just sitting on the verandah of the Family Hotel and 'watching the town go by'. As the most remote town in NSW and without doubt the capital of the Corner Country, this is a town oozing with characters and stories - take the time to have a drink at one of the hotels and chat to the locals - their stories are always fascinating!
